Ketamine Therapy

Additional Information

Ketamine is an innovative, cutting-edge medication for difficult to treat cases of depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorders, among others.  It was originally developed as an anesthetic, and approved by the FDA for such use in 1970.  Ketamine has since been discovered to have many other uses in medicine, including as a solution for treatment-resistant psychiatric illness.

Maybe you have treatment-resistant depression, and you’re wondering if ketamine therapy is the answer you’ve been looking for. Before recommending any treatment, including ketamine therapy, our providers offer a thorough examination to ensure ketamine therapy is right for you.

You may be eligible for this therapy if:

  •  You’ve already tried different medication combinations or dosages without any relief in your symptoms.
  • You’ve tried other therapies, including TMS. You haven’t responded fully to a group or individual CBT or therapy.
  • You don’t have any of the contraindications (listed in the next section) .

Conditions treated:

  • Major Depression
  • Bipolar Depression
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Post-Partum Depression

We know that it can be disappointing and frustrating to try the tried-and-true methods for depression without any relief, but know that ketamine therapy is different. Ketamine therapy isn’t a first-line of defense for any psychiatric treatment, but for those with treatment-resistant conditions, ketamine can be a breath of fresh air and a renewed hope for the future.

Patients receive a series of six infusions spaced over two or three weeks. Each infusion is 40 minutes long, painless, and well-tolerated. It is required for you to stay in the office after the infusions for 40 additional minutes for monitoring. Our office offers coffee, tea, snacks and a comfy recliner chair to make the experience as comfortable as possible. You will be unable to drive after treatment, so please be sure to have made arrangements for pick up prior to leaving our office. Some patients start to feel better within a few hours of receiving ketamine infusions. Over 70% of patients respond to ketamine infusions. Most patients experience significant relief during the series and many remain symptom-free for extended periods of time following the initial treatment protocol. You may find that you can then maintain remission of your illness on more traditional psychiatric medications.  Some patients, however, may need to come in for maintenance treatments, which will occur every week for four weeks. The sustained phase is once a month for six months (if necessary).

Though our practice accepts insurance, Ketamine Therapy is not currently covered. We offer treatment for the following out of pocket cost:

Initial 6 Infusions: If you pay cash - $2400 total or $400/ per infusion

Initial 6 Infusions: If you pay debit/credit card - $2500 total or $425/ per infusion

Maintenance Infusions: If you pay cash - $375/ per infusion
